The hat.

It’s an interesting accessory. Some people look great in any kind of hat, some people only in some, and others really in none. I lean more towards the latter when it comes to hats (especially floppy large hats) the signature look of the horse race. After trying pretty hard to pull them off at the Derby a few years back, I decided to try on a few different looks at this year’s Belmont Stakes. Thanks to my friends who all came prepared with various decor, I have a few snaps here.

“The Sinamay Tear Drop Cocktail Hat” – this is basically the fancy term for the white veil thing you see on my head. Often worn by the british royalty (i.e. Kate Middleton) these “hats” if you can call them that, actually look pretty fun and flirty on everyone! They’re decorative pieces and aren’t really dependent on the shape of your face or size of your head. A definite yes in my book.

“The Boater Hat” – this is the fedora looking, more symmetrical straw hat that serve as a formal summer hat for men. They’re also part of the uniform of the Princeton University Band!

“The Felt Floppy Hat” – this was probably the most popular style at the Belmont and while I couldn’t quite pull it off, others looked wonderful! This classy fun look really covers the shade quite well and can be a fun more casual beach-side/boating look too! Personally, I find that in this size, the larger and floppier, the better ๐Ÿ™‚
