Cancun, Mexico

When I hear Cancun, I automatically think of Spring Break – specifically with my sorority sisters and I specifically cannot remember what happened on that trip, where we stayed or what we did (besides Senior Frogs and some street side hot dogs). But this time around, Cancun was gorgeous, cultural and scenic. I mean, just look at the color of the water! This was the perfect long weekend get-away and there were so many things I still wanted to do that I’ll definitely be back.

On day 2, we decided to take a day trip to Isla Mujeres, which I had originally googled and found to be home of a turtle farm. Obviously, I had to see these turtles. But the island turned out to be an amazing find for so many more reasons.  It was like a get-away from a get-away; small, quaint, and stunning. It’s small enough to get around via bike or golf cart! (of course, we went with golf cart) and big enough to spend a whole day exploring. Or, as a lovely couple we met said, 6-7 trips even.

When it came time for food, we wanted something in between the tacky tourist spot & the grungy local diner and honestly I didn’t think we’d find it. But sure enough, we yelped our way to this amaaaazing gem. Mango Cafe is seriously one of those places you’d see on the Food Network Channel for best eats! We got the steak burrito and fish tacos…AMAZING. Fun fact, we also saw Jason Lewis aka Smith from Sex and the City at this joint! If he didn’t look like he was emo-tastic and searching for solitude I would’ve asked for a fan pic.

I could have spent hours just sitting and watching time go by on this island (and sort of did). I was particularly intrigued by this fisherman who sat on his boat, cutting his fresh fish and feeding the insides to the pelicans who watched and waited patiently close by.

Ever since I saw these flash tatts on Instagram I’ve been wanting to try them. But given my day-job and negative degrees here in NYC I never found the time. Now that I have, i absolutely loveeee them! They’re such a fun accessory and the gold and silver just make them so stunning in the reflection of the sun. Definitely buying more! Find them @ Sephora!

Despite falling a little sick my last day, made worse by unlimited drinks and tequila shots, this was still an overall amazing trip and guess what, my sick day’s giving me the time to post this! New Year’s resolution: More posts & picking up photography!
