For winter break (the joys of being a student again), my boyfriend and I decided we wanted to go somewhere with a beach and “escape the cold.” Who knew New York was going to be 20 C-degrees in the middle of December (amazing or concerning?)

He suggested Colombia and my exact first thoughts were [cool, but drug lords, but dangerous, but maybe]. Who knew, Cartagena turned out to be not just beautiful, but incredibly easy to explore, filled with history and charm. Oh, and lobster.

This place was literally #instagramhusband hell – I’m talking colorful walls and doors on every street. Thankfully, my guy was pretty cooperative 🙂 If you don’t know what I’m talking about, please watch this.

We spent our first few days just wandering the Old Town and stuffing ourselves with fresh seafood. I was lucky enough to meet a Cartagena local one day by the pool. She hooked me up with some must-dos and if you ever find yourself in Cartagena, you really must DO – Movich for sunset drinks (view captured above) and a romantic dinner (with family, friends or significant other) at Casa dE Pesca (ask for a table by the pier). Also, spend at least a day at Playa Blanca and specifically, go to Banana Beach for the best cushions and live DJ (well, live meaning he was alive, and pressed play on his mix before settling down by the bar, but really the music was amazing).

As for what to pack – as you can see I’m a situational dresser and I pretty much overloaded my suitcase with anything floral. This time of the year in Cartagena is actually summer so you won’t need anything more than a light dress or shorts. Honestly, less than that would have been even more ideal. It’s not clear in the shots, but I was sweating in ALL of these outfits. See links below pics if you want to shop any of these looks!

Happy Holidays everyone!
