What the heck is boho

03felicia05felicia  06felicia 04felicia 07felicia 08felicia 09feliciaI hate to admit this but not so long ago I used to confuse the term “Boho” with “Hobo.” I swear this was largely influenced by the fact that my mom often made comments on my outfit choices like “did you really pay for this?” or “This looks a little bit like you found it on the street.” Let’s just say, she isn’t embracing this trend.

So let’s get this straight. Boho (according to Wikipedia) is an abbreviation of Bohemian Homeless, self descriptive of the style. Boho-chic, specifically, is a style of fashion drawing on various bohemian and hippie influences. Hobo, on the other hand, is a migratory worker or homeless vagabond, especially one who is impoverished.

Either way, its resemblant of a homeless style…so my mom was right (when is she not?). But, I like to think of it more like a free spirited style; a carefree, effortless look complemented by a matching personality. So if you’re like me and you feel like a wild child at heart (except at work when I’m very profesh I promise) then feel free to tap into the bohemain vibe with some of my top picks below.

Here I paired this Free People smock dress with black suede buckle detail booties to keep it casual enough for the day. One tip: I’ve noticed Free People dresses in general tend to run a bit short and many a little sheer – so be prepared to wear with flats and perhaps a cute bralette. But all in all, they are the master of boho.
