On the Arabian Peninsula alongside Dubai & Abu Dhabi (more popular tourism countries) is the unique country of Oman. This quietly beautiful country is surrounded by lush green mountains, endless desert, and quiet beaches all at once. It’s strange eco makeup means there’s something for everyone, whether you’re an adventurer, sunbather, or culture seeker.
I would generally classify myself largely in the second category, but every time I visit a country for the first time I long for a little bit more depth around the people, places and lifestyle that make it truly different from the rest of the world, and Oman was no different. While usually I would opt for the diving expedition (which is supposedly great around the Dalmatian Island), instead I went on a hike in Al Jabar Al Akhdar @ Wadi Al Bawaarid and visited the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat.
If you’re planning a trip to Oman, I found that it’s less travelled nature made research a bit more difficult so here are just some quick tips:
Stay at Sheraton Oman in Muscat
The hotel is super well located, the staff are incredibly friendly and I was obsessed with the shisha lounge. The hotel can organize all excursions and airport pickup/dropoff for you, not to mention is complete with a Spa and extensive gym.
Visit Al Jabar & Salalah if you’re going in the Summer
Oman is, after all, a desert country so if you’re visiting in the hottest season, these two locations are situated in higher altitudes where temperatures are a solid 10 degrees (C) lower making them prime vaca spots. Staycation for the locals.
Conservative Attire
Be considerate of the native culture and religion by dressing conservatively – usually this means covering your shoulders and knees if you’re a lady, but at the mosque you will need to be fully covered.
