How to maximise your holiday luggage

I’ve just returned from an almost month long honeymoon and boy did I struggle when it came to packing for this. Being based out of London, I’ve gotten pretty used to weekend trips and that one sad plastic ziplock bag allowance for liquids. So when it came to an extended holiday across city & beach, with unlimited skincare, beauty & hair products, I came out with way too many useless dresses, not enough pants, and ten different perfumes.

So this post is really about what I wish I knew before I left, but will hopefully come in handy for you.

Swimwear that doubles as tops

One of the most useful items on a warm weather holiday is no doubt the bikini. But two pieces and one piece suits with tops that are slightly more coverage can serve as perfect nighttime look when paired with a skirt or wide leg pants over.

Airy dresses

While I love a good fitted dress as much as the next girl, flowy pieces are much better suited for holidays on multiple counts. 1) Sweat doesn’t facilitate quite as easily 2) Food babies can be covered quite well 3) When laundry becomes an issue, which it always does, a light billowing number can be worn day & night while a bodycon really would serve you poorly in broad daylight.

Minimal Shoes

As much as my new husband makes fun of me for wearing the same one pair of brown sandals from Zara for 20 days in a row, shoes are really not a priority on a summer holiday. Most likely, if you’re going to be pool/beach side, you won’t even be wearing shoes for the majority of the day. While if your holiday itinerary consists of sight seeing, the more comfortable the better. My advice: pack 1 pair of comfy trainers (to be also worn on the plane as they’re likely the bulkiest), 1-2 pair of sandals, flat and worn in, 1 pair of chunky heels that are actually walkable and preferably in a neutral colour. If you’re a weirdo and want to gym on vacation like my husband, then also a pair of workout shoes.

Even more minimal beauty

One of my fave looks is that sunkissed, salty hair, nothing but a lip colour look. Not only will this save you dramatic space, you’ll feel so rejuvenated after a holiday of being ‘naked.’
